A Banner Day for Eagle Rifle Results in Topping Murray State

For the first time in program history, Morehead State Rifle has outscored Murray State.

The Eagles bested the perennial OVC favorites and top-five nationally-ranked program by four points in the second annual Kentucky Long Rifle Cup at Kentucky's Barker Hall on Saturday in a match where the teams counted seven shooters in their scores.

Morehead State fired an 8,082 team aggregate to top the Racers by a quartet of points. Host Kentucky scored an 8,200 to win.

In Air Rifle, sophomore Amber Schifano led the Eagles with a 589, while junior Ryan Hinson paced the Smallbore counters with a 580. Also on the air range, senior Alexa Potts came in with a 588 and sophomore Erin Diehl and Hinson fashioned 585 totals. Senior Jesse Moyer topped the 580 plateau with a 581.

In Smallbore, freshman Elizabeth Plecity was right behind Hinson with a 576.

Many personal bests were set in the match, including Diehl with her 585 air score. Freshman Cailey Dahlquist set PRs in kneeling (189), Prone (198), Standing (178) and overall Smallbore (565). Plecity's totals were all her best-ever, including Kneeling (191), Prone (196), Standing (189), Smallbore (576), Air Rifle (584) and Combined (1160). Freshman Bryce Ward tied his Kneeling (189) and Prone (194) and set Standing (181), Smallbore (564), Air Rifle (573) and Combined (1137) personal standards. Schifano's 197 in Prone was a best for her.

Morehead State continues its 2019-20 season on Saturday traveling to Jacksonville State.
