Art and Design Faculty Exhibition on Display Aug. 25-Sept. 17

Morehead State University

The 2021 Annual MSU School of Art and Design Faculty Exhibition in the Golding-Yang Art Gallery of the Claypool-Young Art Building runs from Aug. 25 through Sept. 17.

The 2021 faculty exhibit features work by full-time, adjunct and emeritus faculty. Most often faculty members are exhibiting their work elsewhere in the US and internationally. This show is a chance to display their current work locally to students and community members.

“We as faculty come to class and teach students how to better their work, but we don’t teach what we make. An exhibit such as this is just as important of a learning tool for the students as what we teach them in class. It gives the students a chance to see how to take what they’ve learned and apply it in other ways,” said Melissa Yungbluth, gallery director and instructor of art.

There will be a special memorial room dedicated to Adam Yungbluth, visiting professor of ceramics who passed away over the summer. His wife, Melissa, has gathered 200+ pieces of his artwork to share with colleagues, students and community members who knew him.

“Adam was a prolific, and in my biased opinion, a great maker of ceramics. I have a lot of his work remaining and the hope is for people to come to the gallery, leave a memory of time with Adam and take a piece or two home with them.”

The Faculty Forum will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 15, in the Golding-Yang Art Gallery. The exhibiting faculty members will be present to give brief talks about their work. Audience members are welcome and encouraged to ask questions and interact with the faculty.

The opening reception is from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug 25. It is open to the public. Please contact Melissa Yungbluth, gallery director at myungbluth@moreheadstate.edu for more information.
