In order to allow for an inspection of a bridge crossing the Red River, the Kentucky Department of Highways plans to close KY 715 in the Red River Gorge at the Wolfe-Menifee county line on Wednesday, August 28. The road will be closed from approximately 10:00Am to 12:00PM.

No marked detour will be posted. This bridge closure will impact traffic using the Red River Gorge Scenic Byway loop route. Motorists should plan their trips accordingly.

Road work on Interstate 64 in Carter County will require the closure of the westbound Exit 161 (Pleasant Valley) ramps at Olive Hill on Friday, August 23. The ramps will be closed approximately from 6:00AM to 7:00pm.

During the closure, traffic will be detoured to Exit 156 (Smokey Valley) and US 60 to access Olive Hill or the interstate. Motorists should watch for message boards announcing the closures or advising of changes due to weather.

The Morehead State men's basketball game at Tennessee on December 23, 2013 will be televised live by ESPNU.  Tip-off from Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville is set for 7:00PM. The contest is one of thirty-one games on Morehead State's regular season schedule.  The date against the U-T Volunteers from the Southeastern Conference is also one of ten against post-season teams from a year ago.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet announced the beginning of the annual Adopt-a-Highway Poster Contest, which emphasizes and promotes the importance of removing litter from Kentucky roadways. 

Students from across the Commonwealth are invited to submit creative works for use in a calendar for 2014. The contest is open to all Kentucky students of elementary, middle and high school age. First, second and third place winners are selected in four age groups.

Drainage improvements will require the temporary closure of KY 324 near Mays Lick in Mason County next week.

Beginning at 8 a.m. on Monday, August 12, Kentucky Department of Highways crews will close KY 324 at the 3.1 mile marker – just east of Huber Lane – and cut through the road to replace a cross drain. The road will remain closed until 3 p.m. on Wednesday, August 15. During the closure, motorists may use US 68 and US 62 to access locations along KY 324.

Officials in Jackson County have issued a Golden Alert for Pinkey Woods who was reported missing since Tuesday evening, August 6, 2013.

In order to replace a damaged drainage pipe, the Kentucky Department of Highways plans to close KY 364 in Morgan County on Wednesday, Aug. 14. The road will be closed at mile-point 0.8, just inside the Magoffin County line. The project will begin around 8 a.m. and will continue until approximately 3 p.m. During this time, the road will be closed to all through traffic. No marked detour will be posted, but drivers can use either KY 1081 to KY 3333 or KY 1081 to US 460 through Magoffin County as a detour route. Motorists should plan their trips accordingly.

The Kentucky Department of Highways will temporarily close KY 161 in southern Mason County on Monday, August 5 for a drainage pipe replacement. The work, and road closure, will take place approximately from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on August 5, 2013 between Flat Fork Road and KY 324. Motorists may detour using KY 324 and KY 170. Road work schedules are dependent upon weather. Motorists should heed all warning signs, and drive carefully by remaining aware of workers and construction equipment at all times.

J.J. Cale, whose songs became hits for the likes of Eric Clapton and Lynyrd Skynyrd, has died at age 74 from a heart attack, his management agency's website announced. Cale died at about 8 p.m. Friday at Scripps Hospital in La Jolla, California.

In 1971, Cale, who was born and raised in Oklahoma, released his debut album, Naturally, while he was already in his 30's. He won a Grammy in 2006 for The Road to Escondido, recorded with Clapton.
