Morehead State's 2-6 batters in the lineup combined for nine hits and seven RBI as the Eagle baseball team opened Ohio Valley Conference play with a 7-5 victory at Tennessee Tech's Bush Stadium Saturday night.

Morehead State, which hasn't played a home game yet in 2015, improved to 7-3 overall and 1-0 in the conference. The victory marks MSU's fastest ascent to seven wins to open a season since 1994. Five of the wins have come by margins of two or less runs. TTU slipped to 5-6 overall and 0-1 in the league. It was the program's first victory at Tech since May 4, 2012.

No. 25/24 Murray State made eight of its last nine field-goal attempts and erased an 11-point deficit with 6:31 remaining to post an 80-77 victory over Morehead State in the semifinals of the Ohio Valley Conference Men's Basketball Tournament on Friday night at Municipal Auditorium. The top-seeded Racers were playing their first game after receiving a double-bye. The fifth-seeded Eagles were playing their third contest in as many days.

Seniors Angelo Warner and Karam Mashour combined for 52 points and 15 rebounds on Thursday night to power the Morehead State men's basketball team to a 76-65 victory over UT Martin in the second round of the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament at Municipal Auditorium.

The Eagles, who have won five straight contests and 10 of their last 13, improve to 17-16 overall and 3-1 on a neutral floor. The Skyhawks fall to 18-12 overall. Both teams finished with 10-6 league records this season. MSU is in the OVC's East Division, while UTM plays in the West Division.

The sixth-seeded Morehead State women's basketball team led by as many as 10 points over third-seeded Tennessee State in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament quarterfinals Thursday, but the Tigers outscored the Eagles 30-8 in the final 11 minutes to rally for an 81-66 victory at Municipal Auditorium.

The fifth-seeded Morehead State men's basketball team gets a rematch with fourth-seeded UT Martin in the second round of the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET. All seven tournament games are being played at Municipal Auditorium during a four-day span this week.

The Morehead State men's basketball team knocked down its final six free-throw attempts on Wednesday evening and hung on for a 79-74 win over Southeast Missouri in the opening round of the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament at Municipal Auditorium.

The fifth-seeded Eagles, who have won nine of their last 12 games, improve to 16-16 overall and 2-1 on a neutral floor. The eighth-seeded Redhawks end their campaign 13-17 overall. MSU also moves to 27-17 in the all-time series with its third consecutive victory over SEMO.

Construction has begun on a new state-of-the-art facility for Morehead State volleyball. The facility will be created inside the Academic-Athletic Center in the space formerly occupied by the McClure Pool and Mack Diving Well.

"We are extremely excited to get this project going," Head Coach Jaime Gordon said. "We think we're going to have one of the best volleyball-only facilities in the country, and we've taken an important step forward by getting construction underway."

Former Morehead State star Kenneth Faried has been named an Ohio Valley Conference Basketball Legend in a newly-created program by the league office. The OVC will recognize legends from each of its member institutions during its 2015 conference tournaments.

Faried, who played at Morehead State from 2007-11, is in his fourth season with the National Basketball Association's Denver Nuggets. He signed a five-year contract extension in October, which Yahoo! Sports, ESPN and several other national media outlets reported being worth $60 million.

The Morehead State men's basketball team posted advantages of 46-4 in paint points, 23-3 in fast-break points, 30-5 in bench points, 55-33 in rebounds and 22-3 in offensive boards en route to a 87-55 rout of Jacksonville State on Saturday evening at Johnson Arena.

The Eagles, who enter the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament with eight wins in 11 games, improve to 15-16 overall, 10-6 in league action and 7-6 at home. The Gamecocks, who finish the campaign losing seven of their last 10, close out 12-19 overall, 5-11 in OVC play and 1-16 on the road.

The Morehead State men's basketball team raced out to a 9-0 advantage en route to a 50-point first half and never looked back in an 86-73 Ohio Valley Conference victory over Tennessee Tech before a national-television audience on Thursday night at Johnson Arena.

The Eagles, who have won seven of their last 10 tilts, improve to 14-16 overall, 9-6 in conference action and 6-6 at home. The Golden Eagles, who have lost six of their last eight, fall to 12-17 overall, 4-11 in league play and 2-13 on the road. MSU also sweeps the season series versus TTU.

The Tennessee State women's basketball team denied Morehead State a game-winning shot opportunity with one second left and held on to defeat the Eagles 75-74 Wednesday night at the Gentry Center.

TSU, which is in third place in the Ohio Valley Conference, swept the season series from the Eagles and improved to 14-12 overall and 11-4 in the league. Morehead State, which entered the night in sixth place, slipped to 12-16 overall and 8-7 in the conference.

The Eastern Kentucky women's basketball team put together a 20-6 second-half run in less than 10 minutes and held on for a 70-64 Ohio Valley Conference victory over Morehead State on Saturday afternoon at McBrayer Arena.

The Colonels, who snapped a five-game skid, improved to 9-14 overall, 4-9 in league play and 3-6 at home. The Eagles, who dropped their third straight, slipped to 11-15 overall, 7-6 in conference action and 5-9 on the road. The teams also split the season series.

The Eastern Kentucky men's basketball team forced 20 turnovers and used a late 12-2 run to register a 69-57 Ohio Valley Conference win over Morehead State before a crowd of 5,200 and national-television audience on Wednesday evening at McBrayer Arena.

The Morehead State football program has finalized its 2015 schedule. The 11-game slate features five home games and six road contests. Game times will be announced at a later date.

MSU opens the season at James Madison on Sept. 5. The Dukes advanced to the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs in 2014. The Eagles travel a similar route the following week to face Virginia Military Institute on Sept. 12.

"The 2015 schedule is challenging, as always, especially with the first two games on the road at very tough FCS programs," Head Coach Rob Tenyer said.

The 18th-ranked Morehead State rifle team turned in a fourth-place effort at the Ohio Valley Conference Championship with an aggregate score of 4,607. The Eagles fired a 2,292 in smallbore on Saturday and 2,315 in air rifle on Sunday (Feb. 8) at the Gamecock Rifle Range.

Host Jacksonville State claimed its fourth consecutive league championship after the two-day event. The Gamecocks also won crowns in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2012, 2013 and 2014. Murray State placed second with a 4,644, while UT Martin's mixed team finished third with a 4,615.

Freshman Miguel Dicent drained a runner with 4.9 seconds remaining, and the Morehead State men's basketball team forced a turnover on the game's final possession to score a 73-71 Ohio Valley Conference victory over Belmont on Saturday night at Johnson Arena.

The Eagles, who have won five of their last six contests, improve to 12-14 overall and 5-6 at home. The Bruins, who have dropped back-to-back games after winning five in a row, slip to 15-9 overall and 6-7 on the road. The teams are now tied atop the OVC's East Division at 7-4.

Morehead State baseball seniors Brandon Rawe, Chris Robinson and Kane Sweeney have been named to the official 15-member Preseason All-Ohio Valley Conference Team, as selected by the league's head coaches and sports information contacts.

Tennessee State's Brianna Lawrence scored a season-high 22 points, including six three-pointers, as TSU topped the Morehead State women's basketball team 81-74 at Johnson Arena Saturday night.

Morehead State senior Almesha Jones has been named to the watch list for the 2015 Nancy Lieberman Award, honoring the nation's top Division I women's basketball point guard.

The award, in conjunction with the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass., is named for Hall of Famer and former WNBA player and coach Lieberman. During a four-year career at Old Dominion, Lieberman became the first two-time winner of the Wade Trophy, honoring the nation's best player.

Senior Karam Mashour posted his third Division I double-double, with a game-high 21 points and career-best 14 rebounds, to power the Morehead State men's basketball team to a 72-57 Ohio Valley Conference win over Tennessee State on Thursday evening (Feb. 5) at Johnson Arena.

The Eagles, who have won four of their last five contests, improve to 11-14 overall, 6-4 in league play and 4-6 at home. The Tigers fall to 5-19 overall, 2-7 in conference action and 0-13 on the road. Morehead State also improves to 34-30 in the all-time series against Tennessee State.

Led by a 20-point, 10-assist double-double from senior guard Almesha Jones, the Morehead State women's basketball team knocked off preseason Ohio Valley Conference favorite Belmont 66-55 at Johnson Arena on Wednesday.

It marked the program's first victory over Belmont, which joined the conference in 2011-12, since 1998. Morehead State won its third straight OVC game, all by double digits, to improve to 11-12 overall and 7-3 in the league. The Bruins faltered to 8-15 overall and 5-5 in conference tilts.

Morehead State's Eriel McKee has earned her fifth Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Week accolade. The forward from Lawrenceburg, Ky., shared this week's honor with Eastern Illinois' Grace Lennox.

McKee also received the same honor on Nov. 18, Dec. 9, Dec. 23 and Jan. 20.

The Morehead State men's tennis team got itself in the win column for the first time in 2015 Tuesday (Feb. 3), blanking Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) 6-0.

The Eagles improved to 1-3. The Blue Raiders, ranked fifth in the preseason NAIA poll, lost their season opener.

The No. 18 Morehead State rifle team posted a 4,561-4,409 dual-match victory over Division III opponent Rose-Hulman on Saturday (Jan. 31) at the Cook Stadium Rifle Range. The Eagles registered a 2,283-2,234 advantage in air rifle and 2,278-2,175 upper hand in smallbore.

MSU claimed the top seven spots in the individual standings. Freshman Haley Wilson led the way with an aggregate score of 1,148, while senior Ethan Cole recorded an 1,143, junior Russell Smith managed an 1,138, freshman Dan Hill notched an 1,134 and freshman Seth Baker tallied an 1,133.

Freshman forward Eriel McKee recorded her seventh double-double with 12 points and a career-best 16 rebounds, while senior guard Almesha Jones netted a game-best 26 points as the Morehead State women's basketball team pulled away in the second half to defeat Eastern Kentucky 76-58 at Johnson Arena on Saturday (Jan. 31).

Morehead State, which put the kibosh on a five-game losing skid in the EKU series, improved to 10-12 overall and 6-3 in the Ohio Valley Conference. EKU slipped to 8-11 overall and 3-6 in the league race.

The Morehead State women's golf team has been picked No. 1 in the Ohio Valley Conference Preseason Poll for a third consecutive year. The Eagles closed out their fall campaign with an 88.7 winning percentage, finishing ahead of 47 opponents and behind just six.

MSU collected five first-place votes and 77 total points. Defending champion Murray State was picked second (73 points), while Eastern Kentucky (67), Jacksonville State (51) and Tennessee Tech (51) rounded out the top five positions. The Eagles last won the league tournament in 2011.

  Senior Karam Mashour registered a career-best 24 points, while senior Kareem Storey and junior Brent Arrington posted their first career double-doubles as Morehead State notched an 82-69 Ohio Valley Conference win over Austin Peay on Wednesday night (Jan. 28) at Aaron Arena.

The Eagles, who have won three consecutive games (all on the road), improve to 10-13 overall, 5-3 in league play and 6-7 on the road. The Governors fall to 7-14 overall, 2-6 in conference action and 5-3 at home. Morehead State also improves to 54-51 in the all-time series against Austin Peay.

The Morehead State women's basketball team was nearly flawless at the free throw line Monday night (Jan. 26) at Tennessee Tech, hitting 22-of-23, and that helped lead to a 64-54 victory over the Golden Eagles at the Eblen Center.

Morehead State, now 9-12 overall and 5-3 in the Ohio Valley Conference, connected on its first 22 free throws before finally misfiring with 53 seconds left. Tech fell to 5-17 overall and 2-7 in the league.
