Election Day is Tuesday, November 5. There are close to 18,000 registered voters in Rowan County. More than 600 absentee ballots were requested, and many people have taken advantage of early voting. Still, officials said around 10,000 people are expected to cast ballots at Rowan County voting centers on Election Day.
County Clerk Elwood Caudill Jr. encouraged voters to arrive at the polls as early as possible to beat the strict deadline.
“On Election Day at 6 p.m. is when the line cuts off. If you get there at 6:03 and there’s a line out the door, you cannot vote. You cannot participate in that line. There will be a sheriff behind that line that will stop you from voting. So, you have to be in line at 6 p.m. or before,” said Caudill.
Caudill encouraged voters to conduct their own research about what will be on the ballot before arriving.
“Read the amendments, know them; the poll workers cannot tell you anything about what’s on the ballot. They’re not allowed to explain them to you, they’re not allowed to talk to you about them,” said Caudill.
Sample ballots will be handed out to voters while they are in line at the polls.
Officials said election results will be uploaded immediately after the ballots are delivered to the County Clerk’s office. This uploading process will be livestreamed. Caudill said he expects this upload to begin between 7 and 8 p.m.
