Organizers of a new community gathering said they hope to bring the enjoyment of Rowan County’s natural landscape to bikers. The Thunder on the Hill motorcycle rally will take place at the Landing Strip Campground near Cave Run Lake from September 26 through 28.

The rally portion of the days will be open to any motorcycle owner over the age of 21. Mike Kelsey is the event coordinator for DS Events LLC. He said the rally provides an opportunity the region didn’t have previously.

“The closest thing for anybody that rides, that comes to rallies, is about five hours away. We fill the need, we’ve got the curves, we’ve got the roads, we’ve got the beauty. That’s what a lot of bikers want to, they want to get out and they want to ride,” said Kelsey.

Kelsey said the region offers unique sights that are best enjoyed on a bike.

“As people who have grown up around know too well, riding down through the Gorge, there’s nothing more beautiful than to be on a bike. And then be able to look up. And the cliffs that you can’t see from a car. There’s just a lot of things down here that other places don’t have,” said Kelsey.

Each night will also feature concerts from artists specializing in country and hard rock. Performances from Branden Martin, Molly Hatchet, Jackyl, and more. Kelsey said he hopes the event will bring bikers to enjoy the Rowan County area and make an economic impact on the region.

Concerts are open to everyone, but attendees must be 21 or older to participate in the rally. More information on the motorcycle rally can be found at thelandingstripcampground.com.
