Tri-County facing dog overcrowding

The Tri-County Animal Shelter in Clearfield is currently packed with dogs needing homes.

Officials at the shelter say the stretch of overcrowding has been going on for about a month now. While there are only 30 dog kennels at the shelter, there are 50 dogs being housed there currently.

Animal Control Assistant Nicole Dulen says when animals live in these types of conditions, it can have some serious consequences to their health such as transmitting disease.

Adoption fees for dogs at the Tri-County Animal Shelter cost $100, but many of the long-time residents have been sponsored to have those fees cut in half.

The Tri-County Animal shelter is open seven days a week from 8:00a.m.—4:00p.m. Anyone seeking more information or wanting to see the dogs currently being housed there can click here.
