Tanner Boyd

The company set to open a massive indoor farm in Rowan County next month has provided a major addition for AgTech students at Rowan County Senior High School.

The high school will serve as the second site for AppHarvest’s expanding Educational Container Farm Program, and will allow students to grow fruits and vegetables to be provided to their classmates and those in need.  The RCSHS container farm program will be led by agriculture teacher Bradley McKinney, combining curriculum with existing agricultural education with new units focusing on leading AgTech advancements.

AppHarvest Founder and CEO Jonathan Webb spoke during an announcement event at the high school Tuesday, saying the program is key in an ongoing push for agricultural innovation in Appalachia.

Webb went on to say AppHarvest’s goal is to implement 20 container farm programs at high schools across the commonwealth over the next two years.
