Soccer Schedule Features New and Familiar Foes as Fox Leads Program Into New Era

To say that new Morehead State head coach Chris Fox is excited for the 2022 season would probably be an understatement. Fox, along with new assistant coach Mark Sappington, will help guide the Eagles on the 16-match regular-season schedule, plus an exhibition match to open up.

The schedule features a mix of new and familiar foes and a few the program has not matched up against in many years. Live streaming, ticket information and promotional information for home matches will be available at a later time.

"I'm really excited for my first season in charge at Morehead State," Fox said. "The girls worked hard all spring, and we saw tremendous growth both on and off the field. This fall will be a true measuring stick, and I know I speak for everybody when I say we're raring to go."

Following an exhibition match on Aug. 14 at Wright State, the season begins officially with a pair of home matches. The Eagles host Central Michigan (Aug. 18) and James Madison (Aug. 21) to get things kicked off. The team traveled to CMU last fall but has never faced James Madison.

Other non-conference home matches include Queens (Sept. 4) and Eastern Michigan (Sept. 8). Queens, in Charlotte, N.C., is beginning its transitional year into Division I this year and will be in the Atlantic Sun Conference. The Eagles faced Eastern Michigan for the first time in program history last fall.

MSU will also face road non-conference challenges at regional rival Marshall (Aug. 25), Evansville (Aug. 28), VMI (Sept. 1) and Cincinnati (Sept. 11).

The eight-match Ohio Valley Conference journey includes four home and four road matches. The Eagles will be hosting two of the newest members, Southern Indiana (Sept. 18) and Little Rock (Oct. 2), along with Eastern Illinois (Sept. 29) and SIUE (Oct. 23). Road conference matchups include a tilt at the third newest league foe, Lindenwood (Oct. 16) along with UT Martin (Sept. 25), Southeast Missouri (Oct. 9) and Tennessee Tech (Oct. 20).

Fox takes over at MSU after four successful seasons at High Point, where he helped the Panthers to a conference title and NCAA berth in 2021.
