Appalachians Protest in Washington

mountainroadshow.com

Several Appalachian organizations are in Washington to meet with members of Congress and representatives of federal regulatory agencies and demand an end to mountaintop removal mining. Teri Blanton is with Kentuckians for the Commonwealth. She says the Obama Administration made a commitment to them in 2009 to protect their communities from water pollution resulting from coal mining. Blanton, who lives in Berea, says the results have been mixed…

Blanton says other groups participating in the campaign called “Our Water, Our Future” include Appalachian Voices, the Ohio Valley Environmental Coalition, Sierra Club and Coal River Mountain Watch.
