Standing outside the Lexington Opera House, Mayor Jim Gray, handed an over-sized silver key to the city to Laura Bell Bundy who like a true Kentuckian asked if it unlocked Rupp Arena for UK basketball games. “One thing I always say about people from Kentucky is that the thing they are most proud of is being from Kentucky. I would say that is true. We bleed blue. That’s why I’m happy to be here. I never forget where I came from. I always stay true to my roots…pun intended. I hope everyone can come out here and see this production because I think it’s going to be truly great.”

That production is ‘Legally Blonde the Musical.’  It’s being produced by The Lexington Theatre Company and Bundy, who originated the lead role of Elle Woods on Broadway is co-directing. This year’s company includes five Broadway performers, actors who are training at the college level and a handful of high-school arts students who earned a spot in the show. ‘Legally Blonde’ runs July 20th- 23rd at the Lexington Opera House.v
