Women’s Golf Picked No. 1 in OVC Preseason Poll

The Morehead State women's golf team has been picked No. 1 in the Ohio Valley Conference Preseason Poll for a third consecutive year. The Eagles closed out their fall campaign with an 88.7 winning percentage, finishing ahead of 47 opponents and behind just six.

MSU collected five first-place votes and 77 total points. Defending champion Murray State was picked second (73 points), while Eastern Kentucky (67), Jacksonville State (51) and Tennessee Tech (51) rounded out the top five positions. The Eagles last won the league tournament in 2011.

Morehead State posted a conference-best 303.9 stroke average in the fall. The Eagles registered second-place efforts at the 13-team William & Mary Invitational, 11-squad Chris Banister Classic and 16-team Cincinnati Bearcat Classic before winning the 13-squad LPGA Xavier Invitational.

Sophomore Anna Magnusson led MSU with a 74.9 stroke average (second in the OVC), 90.6 winning percentage, two top-five finishes and four top-10 performances, while freshman Jeanette Petersen tallied a 75.9 scoring average (sixth in the OVC), 72.9 winning percentage and pair of top-five efforts.

The Eagles open their spring campaign Feb. 9-10 at the Cal State Northridge Matador Invitational in Simi Valley, Calif.
