Mark J. Neff, FACHE, St. Claire HealthCare President/CEO has announced that he will retire effective January 31, 2019.
Neff states, “I’m sad to leave, but excited about a new adventure as my wife, Diane, and I are moving back to Notre Dame to be closer to our children and grandchildren.”
Neff was appointed President and CEO of St. Claire in 1995. When he arrived, he brought with him more than 10 years of not-for-profit, regionally integrated healthcare system experience.
“Mark’s exemplary vision and leadership skills over the past 23 years have enabled St. Claire to achieve high levels of organizational growth and success,” says Sister Marla Monahan, St. Claire HealthCare Board of Directors Chair. “We are sorry to see Mark leave the organization, but at the same time, we are very thankful to him for his dedication and commitment to the mission of St. Claire. We wish him and his family many blessings.”
Under Neff’s leadership St. Claire has become much more than just a regional hospital. It has become an integrated healthcare system known as St. Claire HealthCare.
Today, St. Claire HealthCare is the largest employer in the region with nearly 1,200 staff members including more than 100 medical providers representing 32 medical specialties. It includes the largest rural hospital in Northeastern Kentucky with 159 beds, 7 family medicine locations located within 5 counties, a $28 Million multi-specialty medical pavilion, an outpatient center, homecare services and operates 3 retail services including family medical supply two pharmacies and aesthetics.
In addition, under Neff’s direction St. Claire partnered with Morehead State University and the University of Kentucky in the construction of a $30 Million dollar Center for Health, Education and Research (CHER).
Besides providing a larger, state-of-the-art family medicine facility for St. Claire, the CHER is also the home of the University of Kentucky College of Medicine’s satellite medical school for third and fourth-year medical students, known as the Rural Physician Leadership Program (RPLP). Plans are currently underway to expand the RPLP program to a full 4-year medical school. The CHER also houses MSU’s College of Nursing and Imaging Sciences.
Beyond Neff’s leadership at St. Claire HealthCare, he serves on many local and statewide boards to better the health of people in Eastern Kentucky.
He serves, and will continue to serve, until his official retirement at the end of January as the Chair for the Morehead/Rowan County Economic Development Board and the Gateway Child Advocacy Center Board as well as serves on the following boards: Kentucky Health Collaborative Board, Eastern Kentucky Healthcare Coalition Board, MSU College of Business Advisory Board, People’s Clinic Board, New Hope Clinic Board, St. Charles Community Board, Infusion Solutions Board, Kentucky GoodHelp ACO Board, and the Circle of Friends (KHA PAC) Board.
