Second Place MSU Women's Basketball Battles First Place Belmont on Saturday

MSU Athletics

Morehead State women's basketball (19-7, 9-4 Ohio Valley Conference) faces a tough road test at Belmont (22-5, 14-0 OVC) on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET.

The red-hot Bruins are winners of 16 straight, including a perfect 14-0 conference slate. With Morehead State's historic nine-game winning streak ending with a 69-66 loss to Tennessee State in Nashville on Jan. 11, the Eagles hope Belmont's run comes to a similar close on Saturday night in Music City.

Belmont defeated Morehead State 91-59 on Jan. 14, but the Eagles went on to win their next two contests by an average of 20 points. The Bruins currently sit atop the OVC standings thanks to their unblemished resume, while Morehead State follows closely behind in second place.

Morehead State is led in part by junior Eriel McKee, who grabs a team-best 7.6 rebounds per game. The 5-10 forward scores 11.2 points on the season, just one shy of becoming the school's 24th all-time member of the 1,000-point club on her career.

The Eagles enter Saturday ranked first in the conference in three-point field goal defense and blocked shots, with a season-average good for third and sixth among all NCAA Division I teams in those respective categories.

Morehead State seeks its first win over Belmont since 2014-15. Saturday's matchup will be broadcast live on the OVC Digital Network.
