Rifle Opens 2016-17 Season with School-record Effort Against VMI

Morehead State rifle opened its 2016-17 season in style Saturday, setting school records for aggregate and air rifle totals in defeating Virginia Military Institute.

The Eagles fired an aggregate total of 4,612, eclipsing the previous school standard of 4,607 set at the 2015 Ohio Valley Conference Championships. MSU also nudged off the previous air rifle school record by two points, totaling 2,326. The VMI mixed team finished at 4,501, and the VMI women's squad scored a 4,426.

Junior Seth Baker led the charge with an aggregate total of 1,155. He shot a team-best 576 smallbore total and had a 579 on the air gun. Freshman Sarah Fink notched a team-best 586 in air in her first collegiate match. Fellow freshman Jesse Moyer also impressed, totaling 1,154 (582 air rifle and 572 smallbore).

Junior Haley Wilson tallied a 585 air rifle total, while freshman Karly Potts was right behind in that discipline at 584. Junior Joe Fischer also eclipsed the 580 plateau at 581 in air. Junior Dan Hall added a 572 smallbore score to the Eagles' total.
