Recycling Center gets grant

The Morehead Community Recycling Center has been awarded around $67-thousand dollars from the Kentucky Division of Waste Management.

Grant dollars from the Kentucky Pride Fund, which is generated by a $1.75 fee for each ton of municipal solid waste disposed of in Kentucky landfills, are financing the 78 grants, which total just under $5 million for different entities across the state.

Center Director Collin Alexander says the bulk of the money will be used for an automatic bailing system.

Alexander says the grant require a 25%  local match in the form of cash or “in kind” personnel, educational activities or advertising to promote the program from the cities or counties receiving the awards.  Morehead State University was also awarded a $25-thousand dollar recycling grant.
