Public Meeting Planned For Carlisle Road Project

Kentucky Department of Transportation

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will present two design options in March for the reconstruction of the KY 36-KY 32 intersection in downtown Carlisle.

The project proposes a rebuild of the congested five-way intersection near the Nicholas County Schools complex to provide improved sight distance, safer and more efficient traffic flow, and better access for the school system and surrounding community.

Options include replacing that intersection with either:

Alternative 1: Building a new four-way signalized intersection at the existing crossing of KY 36, the school campus and business entrances; and moving KY 32 to connect to KY 36 at a second new intersection west of that area.

Alternative 2: Building a four-way roundabout slightly west of the existing intersection that would also include changes to the school entrance and campus traffic flow.

Plans and engineering information for each alternative, as well as a no-build option, will be presented at a public meeting Tuesday, March 11, which will be held 5-7 p.m. at the Nicholas County High School cafeteria. The meeting will be an open-house format.

The public may drop in at any time to view plans, make comments and talk with representatives from the Kentucky Department of Highways engineers and project staff.

Oral and written statements concerning the project will be accepted during the meeting, and comments may be submitted in writing for a period of 15 days afterward to Kentucky Department of Highways District 9, P.O. Box 347, Flemingsburg, KY 41041.

For more information, or to request assistance due to a disability, please call the district office at (800) 817-2551.
