MSU Closing West Liberty Campus

Morehead State University

A regional campus of Morehead State University for nearly three decades is closing.

MSU opened its West Liberty branch in 1987, but the school’s President Dr. Wayne Andrews says participation has declined over the past five years and it’s now easier for Morgan County residents to take classes online.

In addition, he says, improvements to Kentucky 519 between West Liberty and Morehead have made it easier to get to the main campus.

Andrews is quick to add, however, that MSU is hardly severing ties with the West Liberty community.

“We’re committed to stay in West Liberty. We have a presence there. We still have some folks in offices at the center in West Liberty, but we think that we can better serve the students with the number of courses that they might need if we do those either online or on campus.”

President Andrews talked about the West Liberty campus on Wednesday (August 12) during his fall convocation address.
