Giving Thanks to Music

In the 2018 edition of Giving Thanks to Music, host Nadia Sirota, creator of the Peabody Award-winning Meet the Composer podcast, invites several musical artists, many of whom you and your audiences hear through their recordings each day, to choose a piece of music that illustrates the profound value that classical music has had for them in their lives.

Guests in the 2018 edition include:

  • James Ehnes, violinist and Grammy and JUNO award-winner for his 2006 recording of the Barber, Korngold and Walton concertos
  • Minnesota Orchestra Assistant Conductor Roderick Cox, recently part of the 2016 Bruno Walter National Conductor Preview of the League of American Orchestras
  • Grammy award-winning composer Augusta Read Thomas, who recently founded the University of Chicago’s Center for Contemporary Composition and has taught throughout her career at the Eastman School of Music, Northwestern University, and the Tanglewood and Aspen music festivals.
  • Carlos Kalmar, music director of the Oregon Symphony Orchestra and principal conductor Grant Park Music Festival

That Was Radio: Women in Comedy

Leon Smothers is your host of That Was Radio, a documentary-style program exploring the golden years of radio from the 1930’s through the 1950’s. On this hour-long program, women in comedy including Gracie Allen, Marian Jordan, Lucille Ball, Fanny Brice, Joan Davis and others. Audio clips include Baby Snooks, My favorite Husband, Our Miss Brooks, My Friend Irma and more. That Was Radio is a production of Morehead State Public Radio.

Muddy Bottom Blues: Earls of Leicester

This special program of Muddy Bottom Blues features the Grammy award-winning Earls of Leicester with a live recording at Nashville's Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. The sextet of Jerry Douglas, Shawn Camp, Barry Bales, Johnny Warren, Charlie Cushman and Jeff White makes songs from over a half-century ago feel irresistibly fresh. Muddy Bottom Blues is a production of Morehead State Public Radio.

Greg Jenkins has been the Operations Director at MSPR since 1999. Greg is a 1996 graduate of Morehead State University with a BME in Music Education and received a Masters of Science in Industrial Technology in 2008. Greg oversees training, scheduling, and evaluation of the student board operator staff, preparation of the daily traffic logs and serves as weekday classical music host. He is also the webmaster of the MSPR website and maintains MSPR's webstreaming and podcasting.
