Morehead State Soccer advances to first OVC Tournament since 2015

MSU Athletics

The Morehead State soccer team will partake in the Ohio Valley Conference Soccer Championship Tournament for the first time since 2015.

The Eagles will take on SIU Edwardsville in the opening round of the tournament on Friday at 2:00 p.m. ET at Eastern Kentucky's EKU Soccer Field in Richmond, Ky.

After starting the season with a 1-7 non-conference record, Morehead State won four OVC matches at home and finished with a 4-6 conference mark and gained 12 points to claim the eighth and final seed in the tournament.

"This is a testament to this team as they never gave up," said head coach Warren Lipka. "People counted us out after a tough non-conference schedule but the players never lost faith. I'm so proud of them."

One of the Eagles four conference wins came against SIUE, who is playing as the fifth seed. Senior forward Dani Wilson netted a game-winning penalty kick with three seconds remaining to give Morehead State the victory.

The winner between the Eagles and Cougars will advance to play Eastern Kentucky on their home field Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET.

Should Morehead State advance past the quarterfinal round they will play the regular-season OVC Champions, UT Martin in Martin, Tenn.

Fans can watch Friday's matchup with SIUE live on the OVC Digital Network. The full OVC Soccer Championship Tournament bracket is available at the link above the story.
