McKay Named Interim Director of MSU-Mt. Sterling

Morehead State University

Morehead State University’s Dennis McKay has been named interim director of the MSU at Mt. Sterling campus. He will assume his new position Aug. 8.

"We are delighted that Dennis (McKay) has accepted this appointment," said Dr. Laurie L. Couch, interim associate vice president for academic affairs. “During his time at MSU, he has proven to be a person who has a passion for the students and their education. He will do a tremendous job at MSU Mt. Sterling.”

McKay has been with MSU since 1988 and most recently served as director of the welcome center and graduate admissions.

As regional campus director, McKay will be responsible for providing leadership for all facets including budgeting, facilities management, scheduling undergraduate and graduate classes, recruiting and advising students, managing student services, managing distance learning (ITV), hosting recruiting and other special events, developing and supporting an advisory board, establishing and assessing strategic plans, marketing and raising funds.

McKay will serve as a liaison with KCTCS, public schools, businesses, public agencies, and community organizations at the local, regional, state and federal level.

McKay obtained his Bachelor of Science, Master of Business and Master of Arts degrees from Morehead State

“I have always been passionate in my belief that every student deserves the opportunity to pursue higher education and succeed in that endeavor. I am excited about the possibility of sharing that passion with the students, faculty, staff and the community of MSU’s Mt. Sterling campus and ensuring that every student is given the opportunity to grow and develop, both personally and professionally,” said McKay.

He succeeds Dr. Gwen Sloas, who had been with MSU at Mt. Sterling since April 2014, and now works for the Craft Academy for Excellence in Science and Mathematics.
