I-64 rest areas at Morehead (MM 141) have reopened

WHAS

Following the successful replacement of a water main and other utility repairs, the I-64 rest areas at Morehead have reopened.

The Kentucky Department of Highways temporarily closed the rest areas, located in Rowan County at mile marker 141 just east of Morehead, on Nov. 19 due to lack of water. Crews then located a water main break under the interstate, secured funding, and contracted for line replacement work. Those repairs, and subsequent water testing, were completed late today.

“The extent of the utility issue presented a challenge but, because the public so heavily relies upon these facilities, our crews worked to make repairs in time for this weekend’s holiday travelers,” said Highway District 9 Chief Engineer Bart Bryant.

Crews have now removed barricades, and the rest areas have returned to full service. The highway department appreciates the public’s patience during the outage.
