House Committee Endorses Felon Voting Rights Bill

BPB News Times

The House Committee on Constitutional Amendments has endorsed a bill that would restore the voting rights of non-violent felons after they’ve served their jail sentence or probation.

Currently, felons can only vote if the governor pardons them. Republican State Representative Mark Harmon of Danville amended the measure to call for a three-year waiting period.

Kentucky’s Secretary of State Alison Grimes is applauding the House Elections Committee for its approval of House Bill 70.

If the bill is approved by the full House and Senate, it’ll go before Kentucky voters as a Constitutional Amendment.
