Eagle Volleyball returns home to host the Comfort Inn-Vitational

MSU Athletics

After hitting the road for the first time this season, Morehead State volleyball returns home to host the Comfort Inn-Vitational this weekend.

The Eagles (3-1) welcome in Saint Francis (Pa.), Mercer, and Wright State.

The Eagles return to the nest after dropping a back-and-forth affair with rival Marshall Tuesday. Sophomore outside hitter Olivia Lohmeier slammed home a career-high 19 kills to lead the Morehead State offense, while redshirt sophomore setter Chandler Clark dished out 53 assists on the Eagles' 57 kills. Lohmeier and Clark rank tops in the Ohio Valley Conference in their position's respective categories, Lohmeier with 56 kills and Clark with 166 assists.

Defensively, freshman libero Allison Whitten dug 23 balls, her second game of 20 or more digs this season, to pace a back line that recorded 71 total digs. Redshirt freshman Taylor Hodges (12) and Clark (10) gave the Eagles three total players in double-digit digs, while Clark recorded her second double-double of the season.

At the net, the Eagles blocked 12 total shots, led by five from senior middle blocker Maddie Fella. The Eagles rank fourth in the NCAA in total blocks with 47.0, while Fella's 26 total blocks ranks third. Fella also ranks second in the NCAA turning away 2.17 shots per set.

Saint Francis (Pa.) enters 0-4, dropping each contest of last weekend's EIU Panther Invitational, but the Red Flash did take Fresno State to a decisive fifth set. Mercer (2-2) split at the Jax State Invitational last weekend, taking matches from Lamar and North Alabama. Wright State (2-1) took two-of-three at the West Virginia Classic last weekend, defeating Georgia Southern and host West Virginia.

The Eagles face Saint Francis (Pa.) at 11 a.m. ET and Mercer at 7 p.m. Friday, before wrapping up the weekend with Wright State at 2 p.m. Saturday. All three matches will be streamed on the OVC Digital Network.
