Eagle Soccer Soars to 3-0 Victory

MSU Athletics

Senior Jade Flory scored two goals, and senior midfielder Caity Fox recorded a pair of assists to lead the Morehead State soccer team to a 3-0 win over Tennessee Tech Sunday (Oct. 5) at Jayne Stadium.

Sophomore forward Angela Black capped the scoring with a goal with just five seconds left. Morehead State improved to 8-2-4 overall, 3-0-1 in the Ohio Valley Conference and 6-0-0 at home this year. MSU is now 9-1-2 against Tech since 2003. The Golden Eagles fell to 2-11-0 overall, 0-4-0 in the league and 1-9-0 in road matches.

Morehead State has now won seven consecutive home matches since last season and nine of its last 10 on the turf at Jayne Stadium.

"Jade and Angela are clutch performers," Head Coach Warren Lipka said. "Our defensive backs and midfielders played exceptionally well today too getting the ball to our strikers and finding the open spaces. It is so important to take care of your home matches, and we did that this weekend, because we have a tough stretch coming up."

Flory upped her career goal total to 23, which ranks fourth in program history. She now has 57 points in 36 matches to rank third on the school's career point chart. Black netted her 12th career goal, while Fox tallied her third and fourth assists in 2014.

Morehead State out-shot TTU 16-3 and held a 13-2 advantage in corner kicks. Flory's first goal, at 23:01, came following a corner kick by Fox. The kick sailed to the opposite side of the net where Flory settled and nailed a shot past Golden Eagle goalkeeper Rebecca Toler.

Flory's second tally came at 62:44. She took a forward pass from Fox and raced along the left side before slashing a shot past Toler.

Black scored at 89:55. An MSU shot ricocheted off the crossbar, and Toler knocked the ball away before Black gathered it and scored from five yards away.

Toler stopped five of MSU's eight shots on goal. Junior goalkeeper Elizabeth Floyd halted two Tech attempts.

Morehead State is on the road next weekend facing Murray State on Friday at 4 p.m. and UT Martin Sunday at 2 p.m.
