Council moves forward on Splash Pad

Leeann Akers

The Morehead City Council voted Monday to accept a revised bid for installation of the new Splash Pad.

The Company GameTime has bid the project at just over $389-thousand dollars.   The work includes excavation of the bathroom and mechanical room site, compaction and filling of the unsuitable ground on the site, concrete work, and the installation of the Splash Pad equipment.

Morehead Mayor Jim Tom Trent told the council that the state ruled that an accessible bathroom must be operational before the splash pad can be opened – which added to the cost of the project.

Although the motion to accept the bid was passed unanimously, tensions ran high during the specially called meeting..

The council will advertise bids for the construction of the bathroom facilities this week.  Trent hopes the facility will be ready to open during the city's Labor Day festivities.
