Colt Briggs Selected to FCS ADA Academic All-Star Team

Morehead State defensive lineman Colt Briggs was one of 44 athletes named to the Football Championship Subdivision Athletic Directors Association Academic All-Star Team.

Briggs, a redshirt junior from Wilmington, Ohio, was also named Second-Team Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America, was a First-Team CoSIDA Academic All-District II pick and was Second-Team Academic All-PFL. Briggs has a 3.80 GPA in biomedical science.

He ranked tied for second in the conference with 17.5 tackles for loss and concluded the season ranked second on the team with 80 total tackles. He also had a team-best seven sacks and five quarterback hurries. Briggs won the league's Defensive Player of the Week following a four-TFL effort in a win over Valparaiso on Oct. 1.

Following the 2016 season, Briggs had accumulated 148 career total tackles, including 28.5 behind the line of scrimmage. He also has 10 career sacks.

Football players from all Football Championship Subdivision institutions are eligible for the award. Each of the nominees were required to have a minimum grade point average of 3.20 (on a 4.00 scale) in undergraduate study and have been a starter or key player with legitimate athletics credentials. He must have reached his second year of athletics and academic standing at the nominated institution and have completed a minimum of one full academic year at the nominated institution. He must also have participated in 50 percent of the games played at his designated position.
