Charlie Borders Joins U.S. Sen. Rand Paul's Staff

Former State Senator Charlie Borders is joining the staff of U.S. Senator Rand Paul as field representative for Northeastern Kentucky area, Paul announced recently.

Borders will be serving as representative territory tha includes tBracken, Mason, Lewis, Greenup, Robertson, Fleming, Carter, Boyd, Bath, Rowan, Elliot, Lawrence, Montgomery, Menifee, and Morgan counties.

Borders was elected in 1990 to represent the 18th Senatorial District. He served until retiring in 2009 when he accepted an appointment from the-Gov. Steve Beshear as Commissioner of the Kentucky Public Service Commission. In 2014, he was appointed by Senate President Robert Stivers to serve as a member of the Legislative Ethics Commission.

During his tenure as state senator Borders held many positions, including Minority Whip, Minority and Majority Caucus Chairman, and Chairman of the Appropriations and Revenue Committee.

"I am extremely pleased to join Senator Paul and the team he has assembled in looking out for the needs and well-being of all Kentuckians," Border said. "It is especially gratifying that the region I will be covering for Senator Paul will include all the counties that I had the pleasure of serving for nearly two decades as a member of the Kentucky State Senate."

Borders attended Ashland Community College and Morehead State University, and earned his MBA from Morehead State University in 1977.

“This area is an incredibly important part of the state, and I am excited to have Charlie, a native of the Ashland area who knows the area so well, join our team,” Paul said.
